It was drawing near the end of French class and that meant he was finally going to be soon free of temptation. That temptation was Kurt Hummel. Dave sat at the second to the last table in the back, on the right side, with him on the outside. Kurt was sitting in a row in front of him, on the left side, with him on the outside. Giving him a perfect view of everything and it was killing him. A perfect view of his chocolate colored hair, his charming smile, his porcelain skin, his cotton candy lips that he remembered tasted like cherries. His eyes dropped down at his paper at the memory, his jaw tightened at the thought of rejection and the look of horror on Kurt's face that day.
"So class, this is when I told you earlier at the beginning of class where we would be getting our partners for our project. Choose wisely." The minute their teacher was done speaking there was an immediate uproar as students sprung to their feet frantically going to their best friends, friends, or simply acquaintances. It was then he remembered that Kurt didn't know anyone else in the class besides him and the girl he sat next to. Looking over in the front of the class his eyes fell upon the girl he was just thinking about talking to a boy while playing with her hair. Dave bit his lip as he looked over to Kurt who seemed to be sitting alone.
"Is there anyone who doesn't have a partner?" He heard the question being asked and instantly Dave began looking around the class, at all the tables, to see everyone talking and ignoring the teacher. Apparently everyone was paired off-- well except for Kurt. He hesitated for a moment and then finally raised his hand slowly.

Sitting up at the front of Madam Perry's French Four class, Kurt twirled a pen between his fingers absentmindedly. At the end of Junior year, after transferring back, he had foolishly signed up and agreed to a fourth year of French. It wasn't the language or work that was getting to Kurt this year. It was the people in the class. Specifically having Dave in this class. It had taken a long while, and much growing on his part and even though Kurt had forgiven the other boy, he wasn't really ready to do more.
Like always, his thoughts ran off during class. French was almost too easy for him at this point. Drowning out Madam Perry again he went back to his doodling. Over and over he wrote his name and Blaine's with hearts around them. The singer was so caught up in his own doings he completely missed everything that Madam Perry said. It was only until Ashley had gotten up and moved that Kurt's head snapped to attention. He quickly looked around and figured what was going on, just two late.
As Madam Perry asked for the people without a partner, his head whipped around and his eyes went wide the moment he saw Dave with his hand slightly raised. How could he have been so dumb to not pay attention? It took one look from Madam Perry and Kurt knew he had no choice. Gathering his books up, he held in a sigh. It felt like the longest walk of his life towards Dave's desk. He could do this. "Hello David." Kurt said moving around the desk and sitting down next to him. "I suppose this means we're partners." He swiftly pulled out a notebook and opened it to a blank page, trying to hide his embarrassing doodles. "I take my studies seriously. NYADA is very serious about GPA along with extracurricular. So do I need to set ground rules or can I trust you will handle your half of this assignment problem free?"

Dave saw the look Madam Perry gave Kurt and it seemed almost instantly Kurt stood up and began walking towards his direction. He tried not to notice, be cool about it. Looking downwards at his own notes that he had written in class, taking a pen and making it look like he was concentrating on something. The minute he heard his name however, he quickly flipped to the next page when he noticed a couple of doodles he made with Kurt's name and of Kurt's face. His heart began to race as he hoped to God that Kurt didn't see anything when he moved around the desk in order to sit with him.
When he commented on them being partners all he did was nod, flipping to another page that was blank. Not only to make sure to jot down possible things that Kurt wanted him to write down, but in case there were other embarrassing doodles and words on his notes. He took brilliant notes, however he had to admit his mind did wonder quite often. When Kurt instantly began to talk about his GPA, setting ground rules, and what not Dave looked at him with a sigh as he watched his lips move up and down, hearing the tone of his voice. It sounded like the tone of disappointment. "You haven't even given me a chance," He suddenly said, saying the next thought he had out loud.
"I maybe not as brilliant as you are at Français, but I am still in this class." He informed Kurt and then began to write down the word power point presentation and essay. "We first have to work on research for the power point presentation," He said as he pointed to the word power point presentation. "That's going to take the most work, so we need to get started on that right away." He wasn't going to disappoint Kurt. He already done that in the past and he wasn't going to do that again. Especially since this project seemed to be very important to Kurt. Besides, he needed a good grade too. "Anything you'd like to add?" He questioned.

Kurt wasn't sure what exactly had hit him as he listened to Dave. His entire body had been straight and rigid, signaling that he was going to brush any comments aside and focus solely on this project. He did not feel like putting up with any negative comments from the other boy. But then he spoke and it was tone Kurt wasn't too familiar with when it came to Dave. He had heard regret, annoyance, anger and fear in Dave's voice but never this...this....whatever this tone was. His eyebrows arch up slowly in a bit of surprised. For the first time since sitting, Kurt turned his head slightly to get a good look at the football player. "You haven't even given me a chance." An uncomfortable feeling settled in his gut at the words. Did he deserve to give Karfosky a chance? Hadn't he done that already? Was this even the same thing?
Kurt pushed aside his erratic and confused feelings to aside to focus on their project. He was quickly taken back when Dave seemed to just take charge. For as long as he could remember, it always felt like he struggled to get decent partners for any project. Normally he'd be stuck with some dumb jock who wouldn't work with him because he was gay or get be paired up with a burn out who couldn't care less. Dave though was taking charge. So he sat, his eyes focused solely on Dave as he set out to work, taking him by surprise by his serious and determined attitude. Being addressed by Dave, Kurt sat up a little straighter and shook his head. "I suggest that we do the project on Nice. It's been on my list of European Vacations I Will Take since I was nine. I can only image the pictures don't do it justice." Kurt said getting suddenly excited, waving his hand as pictures of beaches came to mind. "It's name translates into Nice is Beautiful." He caught himself suddenly, the smile reaching to both ends of his face. He cleared his throat and regained his self control. "If that's fine with you of course. I suggest we meet at The Lima Bean twice a week to get through this project as well. It would appear that since you can handle your half of the project, I'll have a little more time to focus on Glee and the musical."

Nice? Dave repeated in his head. He never heard of it. It was a European country? Although Dave was more smarter than the average jock and pretty intelligent compared to an average student, he guessed that Geography might have been not one of his areas of expertise. Dave couldn't help to smile a little as Kurt seemed to get so excited over the idea of doing the project, starting that it had always been a location he always wanted to visit. Yeah, a good place to visit once he becomes rich and famous, Dave thought to himself. When he said that the word Nice translates to beautiful, all Dave did was simply nod as he watched Kurt's mouth-- his smile that seemed to always brighten up a room. His glasz eyes, with a perfect of mixture of blue, green, and grey gazing up at him as he spoke.
When he finally began to talk how they would work on the project Dave looked down as he wrote down how they would meet twice a week at the Lima Bean. "What days?" Dave asked as he was writing it down. His eyes immediately shooting upwards as he mentioned the musical looking over at Kurt going, "So are you going to be Tony?" Oops, maybe he said too much. Him knowing about a musical? Sounds ridiculous, no? However, it was one of the first musicals he watched as a child. He didn't remember that much of it. He secretly preferred the Sound of Music. He liked a few choice musicals, but he preferred his action and comedy films. "I-- I wouldn't know, since... I got kicked off the football team," Dave explained as he looked down at his notebook for a quick second again.
